COURSE PREREQUISITES : Ability to swim at ANY level, no previous experienced required.

COURSE STRUCTURE : approx. 2hrs classroom theory and practical and 10-20 mins practical in the water (in shallow and sheltered conditions)

An accessible training day, designed to be as inclusive as possible. The only requirement is simply that you need to be able to swim. There is a short practical which takes place in sheltered conditions, in the shallows.

Whilst discussing a couple of the beach lifeguards awards/qualifications, we felt that it was a real shame that there are lots of barriers when it comes to participation. If for example, you can’t commit to weeks of training, can’t afford the fee, would struggle to achieve the 400m swim time, are an inexperienced board paddler, simply haven’t got the confidence to take it on…you miss out on learning some vital rescue and first aid skills, as well as look at pro-active measures you can take to plan safe swims. So, we decided to create our own training day. It isn’t an official qualification (simply a training day) but it is taught by a highly qualified and experienced beach lifeguard assessors and trainer of nearly 20 years, in an informal, relaxed setting. The only requirement being that you can swim, whether that be head up breaststroke or you’re hammering it down the fast lane in the pool, all are welcome. It covers :

  • planning your swim and reading the conditions

  • Beach safety / rip current awareness and identification

  • first aid

  • resuscitation

  • how to use a de-fib

  • adult & child choking (particularly important as lots of our clients are parents and grandparents)

  • swimming and towing rescue techniques

  • towing techniques, specially designed rescue techniques with the use of a tow float

  • a short practical at the end of learning

Over the last decade, open water swimming has become incredibly popular. Most swimmers take sensible measures in terms of swimming in groups, using tow floats and bright swimming caps, staying close to shore… We simply want to teach swimmers first aid and rescue techniques, so if the worst happened and a friend, family member, swimming buddy…had a medical event or problem whilst you were swimming (or on dry land), you weren’t left helplessly watching.

PRIVATE GROUP BOOKINGS - bookings are also available for private groups of 8-10. We can be flexible with the location (and are happy to travel around the south west) but may be restricted by the availability of a suitable venue to host the course. Obviously we need a suitable building, with access to consistently flat and safe open water. Prices may vary, depending on location but will be fairly close to our standard £34.99 price.
