CORNWALL WATERPOLO TOURNAMENT 2025

LIZARD PENINSULA

SEPT 6 2025, 9am - 5pm

One of Newquay’s players first visited Trevassack Lake last year and his immediate thought was ‘waterpolo tournament’. Since then we’ve held our first tournament, with fantastic feedback. Trevassack Lake is a stunning £5 million, state of the art facility, with the water in Sept around 19-20 degrees. The site was an open quarry but they dug too deep and hit a natural spring. This filled the quarry with spring water and flooded it. So the sides are nice and high, providing great shelter. We use an area just off the beach, with an outdoor shelter and cafe right next door…as well as toilet and hot shower facilities…and a sauna, for 2025!

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Each team pays £125 to enter and reserve their place. Through link at bottom of the page. THIS INCLUDES entry and 3 camping pitches for the Saturday night. Each camping pitch is allowed up to 6 people. *Additional pitches also available in checkout.

  • Players then enter themselves individually, confirming their attendance. Entry fee is £10 per player.

  • There are also a number of other options available during checkout.

TOURNAMENT LAYOUT

We use one ‘pitch’ and games will be played from 9am-5pm on the Saturday only, games starting on the hour and half hour. Games are 2 x 10 minute halves. At this stage there will be 6 male teams in total, so 5 games per team. If you would like to attend but can’t get enough players for a team/have too many for one team… contact us and we’ll see if any of the other teams need extra players (which some will).

FIXTURE LIST

3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The winner of the tournament will be the highest points scorers. In the event of a tie, we’ll look at the teams head-to-head record and then goal difference (if required).

Whilst we’ll cover the bulk of the refereeing, we potentially require 1 referee/player from each team to officiate 3 games in total (detailed in fixture list).

SPECTATORS

Feel free to bring any partners, non-playing guests. There is only a small car park at the venue (fits around 35 cars), so please car share as much as possible.

SATURDAY NIGHT

Whilst Newquay Waterpolo Team take their waterpolo very seriously, we also approach our socialising in the same manner! Saturday night we’ve arranged a fundraising race night and raffle. Roskilly’s serves some of the best pizza in Cornwall, as well as burgers, vege options….a bar… Roskilly’s restaurant/bar is a 30 second walk from the campsite.

The Lizard Peninsula is quite a remote area and a little shy on supermarkets. Either stock up en route or stop at Tesco/Lidl in Helston or there’s a smaller Co-Op in the village of Mullion.

CAMPING

Roskilly’s Campsite is the official campsite of the 2025 tournament. We’ve booked out the campsite for the Saturday night, so bookings can be made directly through us (with 3 pitches included with each team entry).

A number of the Newquay teams players are regular customers and will find any excuse to swing by, whilst in the Lizard. The campsite section of the farm is only a couple of years old and the facilities are still very new and they have a very impressive set up. Just across the road is their amazing cafe/restaurant, serving epic pizza, burgers and salads, both meat and vege options. All cooked up in their open air woodfired kitchen. Roskillys also specialise and make their own ice cream, with around 30 varieties. Only ever using our own milk and cream from our lovely Jersey herd, which graze on pastures that have been farmed in a traditional and sustainable way. Attendance IS, as you can imagine…100% compulsory!

Useful info : the beautiful Lowland Point is a 10 minute walk from the campsite, with Coverack a 30 minute walk or 3 minute drive. Other areas of interest in very close proximity are Kynance Cove, Coverack, the Helford River, surfing at Poldhu

Other options close by include Polurrian Hotel, Seaview Holiday Park, stay at Trevassack Lake itself, Trelowarren Estate, The Bay Hotel in Coverack.

Coverack is a 3 minute drive.

Kynance Cove, short drive from Namparra and Trevassack.

FOOD & REFRESHMENTS

Whilst the cafe is open throughout the day, it is also open to the public. I didn’t want them to be overwhelmed with orders, so they’re pre-making us a delightful pasta salad and/or pasta salad with roast vegetables. Something quick to order/serve and not to heavy on the eating…particularly between games! We have a designated lunch break but you can obviously order and eat whenever is convenient. Purchase option available on the Checkout page.

EVENT MERCH

This year you can order an event t-shirt and/or quality cotton hoodie before the tournament (only available as a pre-order). We’ve designed it to look more like a stylish tee/hoodie, rather than a standard event t-shirt/hoodie. We use a wholesaler for orders and will bulk order closer to the event date. T-shirts will be white, 100% cotton and hoodies will be a darker colour, with white logo. Available in a number of sizes in the checkout section.

SIZE GUIDE : Mens small 34/36”, medium 38/40”, large 42/44”, XL 46/48”, XXL 50/52”.

FIXTURE LIST

Teams are randomly drawn out of a hat.

Games will be 10 minute halves, running clock. We suggest that each team bring a couple of match balls. Whilst we don’t have a shot clock present, referees will be instructed to turn the ball over, if they deem a team to be time wasting.

8.45am-ish : Quick referee talk and safety briefing for players

INFO TO COME…

EXTRAS

For 2025 we’ll more than likely have a sauna on the premises…

OPEN PLAY SUBSTITUTIONS

You can sub out/in during open play, anywhere along the lane line in your own half. We’ll be playing 10 minute halves so this will probably be required. Just make sure you high-five outside of the pool/pitch. SEE BELOW :

VIOLENT CONDUCT/BRUTALITY

Whilst we accept that this is part of the game, we’re thrilled to be playing at Trevassack Lake and would like to continue to hold the tournament there annually. Whilst we love a competitive game, we also want this tournament to be a friendly and social occasion. As such, we will take a dim view of violent conduct, particularly audible bad language. The site is open to the public and any actions that could jeopardise future tournaments will be taken very seriously. Such actions may result in a player(s) been banned for the rest of the tournament or potentially asked to leave the site altogether. Any incident of this nature will be discussed by a small committee on site and a decision made fairly rapidly.
